What software QA tools do you need to know to work in software quality assurance (SQA)? The answer to that question depends on a variety of factors. The type of project do you want to work on. What end product does your company produce? That programming languages or databases does the software producer use. In addition to computer proficiency and a basic knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC), those looking to work in QA should familiarize themselves with the following list of commonly used QA related tools.
Common QA Tools
- Firebug – Firefox add on for JavaScript debugging, monitoring web traffic and more
- Firepath – Firefox add on for finding JQuery selectors, XPaths, and more
- Selenium – used for recording web site related tests
- Web Developer toolbar – Firefox add on to help QA web sites
- Internet Explorer developer tools – web authoring and debugging tools for the Internet Explorer browser
- Chrome developer tools – web authoring and debugging tools for the Chrome browser
- JMeter – used for testing website performance
- SOAP UI – used for testing “middle ware”, the software that connects two separate applications
- JIRA – ALM (application life cycle management) software. They have a free 30 day trial version.
- Wireshark – network traffic analyzer
